All you need is the desire to grow a garden

Hi, We're Jordyn and Kay!

Hi, we are Jordyn and Kay Clark, a mother and daughter in law duo who love spending their days in the garden, growing food! Now, don't worry-- we aren't in the garden all day long. Although we wish we were!

Kay has been gardening since birth-- with her mom but stopped for a brief time due to moving around for her husbands corporate job. About 15 years ago, she moved back into the house she grew up in and took over her moms large garden. Getting back to her roots, growing food, trying new things, preserving it all and teaching Jordyn along the way. She has 30 years of gardening experience!!

You'll probably not even belive this but I (Jordyn) never grew up with a garden. Well, I take that back, my grandpa always grew one and his raspberries were the best...ahh brings back so many childhood memories. But I was a military brat and that means you move a lot. So growing and preserving food was not something I even knew about!! We shopped at the store.

Most people believe that you need to have a massive amount of space to grow a large garden that produces enough to preserve but The Effortless Garden(er) is here to prove that you don't.

When Kay moved back to Washington, she kind of took over what her mom was doing and what she was taught. But something we wish we knew was that there are better and more productive ways to garden. And sometimes you learn these things from other people who have a different gardening experience than you. And instead of giving up the second something didn't work, we learn how to work around and make it better or learn to live with it.

So, we are here to be that person for you. We know how difficult and confusing it can be to have to search instagram and google for the answers you need but all the answers are different or they are completely wrong advice. This isn't the way of gardening anymore.

We've helped hundreds of people grow successful gardens just based off our instagram tips, so can you imagine what you'll be able to learn inside full video lessons?

How We Got Here

My journey to the garden wasn't as simple as it could have been.

Remember when I said we shopped at the store because of military life? Okay keep that in mind, but when I first moved here, Kay would grow her garden and I would still shop at the grocery store. I didn't know what the heck I was doing so I was not going to mess with it. I am so embarrassed to admit it but I was so scared of the garden. I didn't want to mess it up!!

My husband, Bryce would utilize her garden when he was cooking dinner. The first thing I noticed was how much fresher the food tasted. Then I noticed how much longer it lasted in the refrigerator versus store bought. I was shocked. Things would last weeks.

That eventually got me thinking...how old is the food I'm buying from the grocery store? Why is it going bad SO fast? It's such a waste.

When you start thinking those thoughts about food, naturally you spiral into "where does my food even come from"???

I had no idea!!

Except, when I use the garden, I knew exactly where the food came from. It came from the plant right outside. It went from the vine to my plate. Literally no where else! At this time, I became fascinated with the fact that you could have the exact foods you purchase right in your own yard that tastes a million times better and requires nothing else but some soil, water and sun.

That's when I realized...

I didn't need the grocery store anymore for these types of things! I could do this (or help Kay) and grow my own food!

As soon as Kay would go out to the garden I was right there with her and trying to learn everything she knew about how to grow a garden. What getting started looked like, why we needed compost, how to harvest, correct watering, dealing with bugs and so on. I needed to know it all because there was no way I wasn't going to do this.

Next gardening season happened and I was there helping her plan it out and making sure we had enough food for her and for me because HELLO I was here and I'm using it now!

Thankfully, she was willing to share her garden knowledge with me because I now have the skills that can grow a garden, effortlessly.

A letter to you...

Hi, Jordyn & Kay here.
We totally understand where you are coming from, it's okay to be unsure at first. I was unsure about learning to garden myself, I didn't think I could learn it. I felt like Kay knew so much and there just wasn't enough time to absorb it all and be successful.
I'm going to be totally honest with you, the thing is, being unsure is a scary place. I was always nervous Kay would find out that I was using the grocery store instead of the garden. What I can tell you is that if you keep thinking about that garden you want to grow and wondering if you should do it, those feelings are going to drive you crazy!! I know, they drove me crazy when I bought the food instead.
It wasn't until I took a chance and did something totally different from the norm that I grew up with, that I realized learning and doing things a new or different way aren't so scary. And that you can make a change in your lifestyle, especially if you have someone to help you out along the way.

Think about the pros and cons: stay safe, don't try to garden but keep living the life you're still living OR take a chance with someone that's done this and has been gardening successfully for over thirty years and create the dream garden you've always wanted.

Well? We're ready for you inside The Effortless Garden(er)!
